[Arp] Questions about SOLService Extension/ MXNA sidebar app showcase

Hi,

I have a few questions about the SOLService's ARP Extension.

Why is that, the need to rely on mx.rpc package ?
Why is it worth building a custom PendingCall class just to retrieve local
datas ?
It's seems pretty heavy implementation just to retrieve some local datas..

Is there some sample cases implementing SOLService?
I know their was a MXNA sidebar app (
http://www.swapdepths.nl/2005/05/23/mxna-sidebar-app/).
Are the sources available  ?
