[Arp] Ruby compiled to SWF

Hi Chris,

Have you seen the preliminary plans I posted about the latest version of
Arp?
http://ariaware.com/pipermail/arp_ariaware.com/2006-January/000882.html

The biggest problem I would see with having Ruby -> Swf is having to
build Yet Another Component Framework, this time in Ruby. Building
component frameworks is really hard work. Currently, there are probably
only two that I would/do use for professional RIA work: Grant's
MCOM/Glic components and the much-criticized-but-not-yet-topped V2
component framework. (The component framework in Laszlo is probably the
most robust but (a) is very heavy, (b) I really can't justify an
investment in their XML dialect and (c) I cringe at programming with tags.)

Also, a direct translation of how AJAX works in RoR to async data
transfer in Flash doesn't seem ideal to me. It feels too contrived.

I do believe, however, that it's possible to get a framework together
that brings the benefits of RoR to Flash app development. For HTML-based
RIA work, I can't think of any system I've worked with that tops RoR --
it just feels so natural. With Arp 3, I want to provide that ease of use
in getting up and running with support for several server-side platforms
while keeping the general structure of Arp.

Looking forward to hearing your comments.

Take care,
Aral
