Community
Ariaware is an active participant and contributor to several communities, including the Flash and Rich Internet Application communities and the Open Source community.
Our Flash and RIA community projects include:
- Open Source Flash (OSFlash.org)
We are passionate about open source! Aral Balkan founded the hugely successful OSFlash (Open Source Flash) project. Ariaware sponsors the OSFlash initiative by providing hosting for Open Source Flash project repositories and mailing lists as well as hosting the OSFlash Wiki. In 2005, Arp, the open-source, pattern-based framework for the Flash Platform, became part of the OSFlash initiative.
- AralBalkan.com
AralBalkan.com is the personal blog of Aral Balkan, founder of Ariaware. There you will find information on Flash and Flex development, RIA architecture and usability -- along with community news and commentary.
- London Macromedia User Group (Historic)
Ariaware organized and sponsored the London MMUG from September 2004 to June 2007.
- What Is Flash? (Historic)
What Is Flash? became the world's first WYSIWYG Wiki when it was launched on New Year's Day, 2003. The site began as the home of the Flash Consortium -- a group of leading members of the Flash community actively involved in defining Flash and encouraging beneficial uses of Flash while highlighting potentially harmful ones(such as pop-up or interstatial advertising). After facing large-scale defacement from wiki spam towards the end of 2004, WIF is now back, using a new version of our WYSIWYG Wiki engine. In 2005, WIF will become home to the NaturalDocs for Flash movement, begun as a successful campaign on Aral's blog to bring ActionScript 2 support to NaturalDocs and immediately embraced by members of the Flash community.
Our current open-source projects
We believe fully in the benefits of open-source. We use open-source widely in our own organization and try to give back to the community as much as possible. Some of our efforts are outlined below.
- Arp Framework
Arp is the Open-Source Pattern-Based RIA Framework for the Flash Platform. It currently supports development in ActionScript 2 and ActionScript 3 for Macromedia® Flash® and Flex™-based Rich Internet Application (RIA) Development.
- SWX, SWX-RPC, and SWX-PHP
SWX, created by Aral Balkan, is the native data format for the Flash Platform. SWX-RPC is a Remote Procedure Call protocol encoded in SWX format. SWX-PHP is a PHP implementation of SWX RPC.
- Wysiwyg Wiki (Historic)
An extension of WikkiTikkiTavi, Wysiwyg Wiki (short for What-You-See-Is-What-You-Get Wiki) is a visual Wiki that does away with confusing Wiki tags in favor of standard HTML. The latest 2.0 release includes cross-browser visual editor support and a CAPTCHA test to reduce wiki spam. The Wiki is currently being used on What Is Flash and other third-party sites and will soon have its own repository and web site.
- Moose ActionScript Library (Historic)
The Moose ActionScript Library is a Flash MX library of useful ActionScript classes. Read two introductory tutorials on the Moose Library on the Flash community site Ultrashock.
